ION SCI-FI AWARDS OPEN FOR PUBLIC VOTING

The inaugural Ion Sci-Fi Awards have released the full roster of 2021 nominations. An initiative of the Sydney-based Endeavour Mission, a fully immersive science-fiction simulation experience headed by founder Matt Moran, the awards honour sci-fi storytelling in film and on television.

Fans of science-fiction the world over can vote on this year’s nominees here - https://endeavour.tv/multipoll/ion-sci-fi . The list of eligible contenders was compiled in conjunction with Sydney Science Fiction Film Festival director Simon Foster; Christian Baines, Canadian-based author of the book The Beast Without; and, Ion Sci-Fi show host, Raymond Padora.

Television categories are dominated by Apple TV juggernauts FOR ALL MANKIND Season 2 (3 nomination), INVASION (2 nominations) and FOUNDATION (3 nominations). Also in the mix are fan favourite THE EXPANSE Season 5 (3 nominations) and STAR TREK DISCOVERY Season 4 (2 nominations).

Leading the film categories are Denis Villeneuve’s Oscar frontrunner DUNE and Tom Hanks in Miguel Sapochnik’s FINCH, with each scoring three nominations. Other highlighted 2021 genre works in the mix are Cate Shortland’s BLACK WIDO (2 nominations) and Lana Wachowski’s THE MATRIX RESURRECTIONS (2 nominations).

The Sydney Science Fiction Film Festival is an Official Partner of the Ion Sci-Fi Awards, recognising the shared goals and community connections both organisations are working towards. "I know from the feverish feedback I get to our festival program announcements that there is an invested, passionate population of Australian fans with thoughtful, considered knowledge of the best of film and TV sci-fi," Foster says. "These awards speak directly to those of us who understand the unique perspective that science-fiction and fantasy works afford a modern society."
