The Blob & Killer Klowns From Outer Space

‘80s SCI-FI SPECTACULAR

On the eve of our 2023 festival, we are thrilled to present the ultimate retro sci-fi experience.

  • August 19: Sydney’s Skyline Drive-In

  • August 27: Melbourne’s Cinema Nova

We celebrate the 35th Anniversary of two classic cult sci-fi films, each filled with stunning bold colours, brutish anti-heroes, icky alien invaders - all that was great about the beautiful B-movie cinema of 1988.

THE BLOB

(Dir: Chuck Russell, 95 mins)

A deadly entity from space crash-lands near a small town and begins consuming everyone in its path. Soon, panic and desperation sets in, as shady government scientists try to contain the horrific, mutating, gelatinous creature. Alongside John Carpenter’s The Thing and John Landis’ An American Werewolf In London, Chuck Russell’s thrilling remake of the ‘50s schlocker is considered a landmark work of practical effects mastery. Starring Shawnee Smith, Kevin Dillon, Donovan Leitch, Jeffery DeMunn and Candy Clark.

KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE

(Dir: Stephen Chiodo, 88 mins)

When the good people of small-town USA start meeting awful ends, it’s clear to the kids what’s happening - alien invaders that look like circus clowns are taking over with brutal disregard for the U.S. way of life. Armed with an ice cream truck, the teenagers decide, “Enough’s enough…” Few films have built the cult following enjoyed by this wacky, weird and, occasionally, legit scary romp. Pennywise ain’t got s*** on this lot! Starring Grant Cramer, Suzanne Snyder and John Vernon.
